TER 2014_01_04 Thistle Street Fire - 14

Between 15-20 residents were evacuated after a fire broke out at an electrical substation at Ramsay Gardens near Edinburgh’s Royal Mile around 5am this morning.

Emergency services attended the scene including two fire engines along with an incident support unit and police officers.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: “We have had to evacuate surrounding properties. We also think there may be a gas main that has ruptured externally.”

Engineers from Scottish Gas and Scottish Power are now dealing with the incident.
