Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually harassed in the street over the weekend.

The incident happened sometime between 5.30am and 6am yesterday morning in the Ferry Road area.

The 19-year-old victim was walking to catch a bus when a man began to follow her and made inappropriate comments towards her.

After becoming concerned by the man’s behaviour, the woman raised the alarm with a male member of the public while she waited at a bus stop on Crewe Road South. This individual then waited with her until she boarded a bus.

Inquiries are now underway to trace the suspect and anyone who can assist officers with their inquiry is asked to come forward.

He is described as white, around 25-years-old, about 5ft 7ins tall with an average build, clean-shaven build and wearing a grey hooded top.

Detective Constable Nicole Napier from the Public Protection Unit at Fettes Police Station said: “This incident left the woman feeling very distressed and we are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to trace the man responsible.

“As part of this investigation we would also like to trace the man who waited with the victim at the bus stop, as he may have useful information.

“We would ask him to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone with any further information, or who witnessed this incident, should also get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
