The Lord Provost launched an appeal in partnership with St John Scotland at a City Chambers reception last night to support the roll out of twenty Public Access Automated Emergency Defibrillators, or PAAEDs, across Edinburgh over the next twelve months.

The Edinburgh Committee of St John Scotland will deploy the devices and create local partnerships with three key groups of participants: Donors, Hosts and Guardians.

If you would like to get involved then you can either raise money or agree to look after a defibrillator. The two installed in Waverley Station have already saved two lives.

On Friday 2 September The Big Project Youth Choir will be on stage at The Queen’s Hall.

Sing along with hits from the likes of Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Gary Barlow, and hear beautiful self-penned songs from the talented children and young people at The BIG Project – a youth and children’s charity based in Broomhouse, Edinburgh. You might have seen and heard them before, singing “Flower Of Scotland” for the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, or performing live on BBC Children In Need with Gareth Malone!

Over the past two years, they’ve been focused on songs and songwriting, through a project funded by Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative. They’ve written lots of their own songs, and thought about what makes songs so special and enjoyable. So it’s really exciting that in this concert they’ll be performing with some of our favourite songwriters – award-winning songwriter Karine Polwart, 2016 SAY Award Nominee Rachel Sermanni and Music Director, critically acclaimed songwriter Kim Edgar. To top it off, they’ll also be joined in song by Love Music Community Choir, the UK’s largest community choir. It’s going to be really special – don’t miss it!

Catch the last ferry across the Forth next Thursday!

The final Forth Ferry sailing of the season will take place on 8 September 2016, with Fife and East Lothian residents having the chance to enjoy great days out on either side of the Forth.

The Forth Ferry was launched by Seafari Adventures and the Scottish Seabird Centre to support VisitScotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design, and offers a unique passenger service between the popular seaside towns and tidal harbours of North Berwick, East Lothian and Anstruther, Fife.

Each crossing takes approximately 45 minutes on board the 55-seat Catamaran: bikes and buggies can be pre-booked ensuring that both families and cyclists can make the most of this opportunity.

Colin Aston, Managing Director of Seafari Adventures, said: “The Forth Ferry has had a really great season, with excellent feedback from passengers. What has been really interesting has been the number of walkers making the most of the Fife Coastal Path and John Muir Way, as well as cyclists. With only one more date scheduled I would recommend that bookings are made soon to avoid disappointment.”

Tom Brock OBE, Chief Executive of the Scottish Seabird Centre, said: “With the launch of the Forth Ferry blog and itineraries on our website, we have offered more information for Forth Ferry passengers this year. We hope to build on this more for the 2017 season and would welcome top tips and recommendations on what to see and do on both sides of the Forth from tourists and locals alike.

“The aim of the Forth Ferry is to forge closer tourism links between East Lothian and Fife for the benefit locals, visitors and communities. It has been great working in partnership with VisitScotland, Fife Council, East Lothian Council, East Neuk Tourist Association and the Scottish Fisheries Museum to make the service such a success.”

Alistair Bruce, General Manager of Keavil House Hotel, said: “As Chair of the Fife Tourism Partnership, I am always impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment I see from various operators in the tourism sector. The Forth Ferry initiative which runs between Anstruther and North Berwick is no exception to this. This is a brand new service and has already attracted a great deal of interest and adds yet another attraction to entice visitors to Fife.”
