Police in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses after criminals targeted two properties in the area.

Shortly before 8am on Monday, September 19th, police in Tranent were alerted to a housebreaking at an address in Gavin’s Lee.

The occupiers had been on holiday when the thief or thieves struck resulting in the theft of a silver VW Golf with the registration VN61 FUU. Enquiries into this incident, which happened sometime between Sunday the 18th and Monday the 19th of September, are ongoing and anyone with relevant information is asked to come forward.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an attempted break-in to the professional shop at Musselburgh Golf Club.

The person or persons responsible were unable to gain entry to the building and left empty handed however the door frame was damaged.

Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area of the golf club around 11:30pm on Monday, September 19th, who witnessed any suspicious behaviour.

Police Constable Karen Hamilton who is based in Musselburgh police station said: “Our enquiries into both incidents are ongoing and we are pursuing various lines of inquiry. However, given the nature of these offences and where they occurred we cannot rule out the possibility that they are linked.

“Today, I urge anyone with information that can assist with our investigation to contact police immediately.

“Both incidents have left the victims extremely disappointed and we want to do everything we can to ensure those responsible are swiftly arrested.

“If you have seen the silver VW Golf or remember any suspicious activity in or around Musselburgh Golf Club in recent days, please contact police on 101. Alternatively an anonymous report can be made through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
