Sad news as we hear that Mr Q, the first guide dog to work with an MSP at Holyrood has died.

Mr Q worked with former SNP MSP Dennis Robertson who represented Aberdeenshire West at Holyrood between 2011-2016.

Miles Briggs Conservative MSP for Lothian has tabled a motion on the subject which highlights the important role guide dogs and other assistance dogs play in supporting people with disabilities and support needs.

The guide dog had his own Twitter account where he regaled his followers with his days at Holyrood until he retired earlier this year.

Speaking today Miles said: “Mr Q quickly became very popular with MSPs, MSP staff and other Parliamentary employees who used to volunteer to take him out for walks in Holyrood Park.

“His work as Dennis Robertson’s guide dog was really important in allowing Dennis, as someone who is visually impaired, to carry out in full his duties and responsibilities as an elected member.

“Having met with blind constituents earlier this week who also have guide dogs, I know that the support they give to so many people really does make a huge difference to their quality of lives.”
