img_6910-captionedIf you feel powerless to help the situation in Aleppo then perhaps now is your chance to do something.
On Sunday 20 November 2016 you can go to the Boardwalk Beachclub Silverknowes, Portobello Beach or Cramond at dusk when a beacon will be lit, intended to bring hope to the besieged people in Aleppo.

Revd Dr Harriet Harris, the Chaplain of the University of Edinburgh who started the appeal says “Every day, the people of Aleppo have less food, fewer medical supplies, and aid is not getting through. We want them to know they are they are not forgotten: the people of the world are watching.

“Our message is simple: stand beside our fellow human beings and answer the darkness by sending messages of light.”

“Communities around Scotland are gathering to light beacons of hope that will travel around the world by social media using the hashtag #alightforaleppo and the idea has now struck a chord around the world.
“More than 60 events have been created in 20 countries, and messages of support have flooded in.
“Details of all the events are on the website www.alightforaleppo.org where you can also donate to Oxfam, Caritas, and Medicins Sans Frontieres, who are working in the region.”
