Police are working with Tesco’s as part of an upcoming community outreach programme in Edinburgh.

On Saturday, December 10th, between 10am and 2pm, divisional community officers will attend the Tesco store on Duke Street in Leith for the latest ‘Meet the Police’ event.

The initiative aims to provide members of the public, particularly children, with an opportunity to engage with officers in an informal setting.

Two officers will staff a stall within the store itself, which will include entertainment aimed at youngsters including face painting.  Boys and girls will also have the chance to have their picture taken in a real police car, which will be parked outside.

Constable Tracey Gunn, who is based in Edinburgh, said: “Over the last few years we have facilitated ‘Meet the Police’ sessions across the city including at HMP Edinburgh and have found it to be an extremely effective and worthwhile activity.

“Tesco have been a strong supporter of this work and have assisted us with many of the events that we hold, providing healthy fruit and snacks for children and families.

“They have now invited us along to their store in Leith and I hope that members of the local community will drop in and say hello.”

In February 2016 “Meet the Police” was awarded the Police Partnership of the Year” at the Police Scotland Force Excellence Awards.

This year it has been nominated by the Scottish Prison Service for a “Butler Trust Award”
