Edinburgh Capitals’ Russian forward Pavel Vorobyev was today named the Elite League Player of the Week.

The accolade for the 6ft 1in, former Chicago Blackhawks right-wing comes after a sensational four-goal salvo as the Murrayfield combine beat Scottish rivals, Braehead Clan, 6-4 in Edinburgh last Sunday.

Three of the 34-year-old Russian sniper’s goal came in 13 sensational, third-period minutes and the man from Karaganda has so far scored eight goals and set-up another 11 strikes for 19 points in 14 Elite League games.

And he has climbed to sixth place in the overall league points charts. Joey Martin (Cardiff Devils) leads with 24 points (seven goals and 17 assists) but Martin has played five more games.
