A 48-year-old woman has been reported to the procurator fiscal over the alleged stabbing of an eight-year-old girl at an address on Danube Street in the early hours of Wednesday.

The  woman suffered serious injuries during the incident and remains in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The child is being treated for her injuries at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Her condition is described as critical,

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were called to an address in Danube Street around 1.35am on Wednesday, where an eight-year-old girl was found with serious injuries.

“She was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, where she remains in a critical condition and specialist detectives are currently supporting her family.

“A 48-year-old woman was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after also being found seriously injured within the address.

“She has now been reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with this incident.”
