Development Squad defender Kane O’Connor, has signed a full-time contract with the Hibernian Academy.

The teenager has been involved with the Development Squad in their league and cup campaign this season as well as featuring for Scotland at under-17 level, notably in the Victory Shield.

Kane spoke to Hibernian TV about his the help he has been given by his team mates and coaches as he aims to eventually make the first team.

The defender said: “I’m very proud, I’ve worked hard to get to this point for seven years and it’s good to be here.

“I’ve worked with a few good coaches over the years, especially the last couple of years and playing for the Under 20s has been good for me. It’s been a challenge but the boys helped me through it though, playing in different positions because we have to make do with what we have.

“Playing with some first team players who have a lot of experience and they do help you , and playing against experienced players means that you get to see how physical and how much ability they have which is much higher that you are used to playing against in the Under 17s.

The coaches, (Grant Murray, Lee Makel and Eddie May) have played the game before so they know what it takes to make it and they have helped me.

“Playing in the Victory Shield was a good experience as well and we did pretty well but were just a bit unlucky in the end. I was proud to see my family and friends come to support me

“My goal is to try and break into the first-team in a few years. I’ll keep working hard, keep doing what I’m doing, and I’ll hopefully get there one day.”
