An Edinburgh charity that carries out lifesaving heart research will benefit from £800 courtesy of an East Scotland housebuilder.

The British Heart Foundation has received the funding from Persimmon Homes East Scotland, after a group of fundraisers and University of Edinburgh students applied to support the charity.

Emma Batchen, a PhD student at the university, whose research is supported by the British Heart Foundation, stated;

”As a group we’ve carried out fundraising events such as bake sales and a pub quiz, but we really wanted to mark the end of our first year with a large event.”

“We decided a ceilidh would be fantastic  way to get everyone together to share stories and have a night of fun. We really can’t thank Persimmon Homes enough for their generous funding.”

Jim Kirkpatrick, managing director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the British Heart Foundation as heart disease is Scotland’s single biggest killer. The group at Edinburgh University have worked really hard to fundraise for the foundation and we’re so pleased to be able to back them with a donation.”

Persimmon Homes’ scheme offers charities in East Scotland the chance to win up to £1,000. To nominate a Community Champion, click here and fill in the application form.
