James Keatings has won the Hibernian FC ‘Goal of the Season’ award for his late strike against Falkirk which resulted in a vital three points in the race for the Championship.

With Hibs drawing 1-1 at home, the former Hearts’ striker latched onto a Brian Graham knock down and cut inside to his weaker foot before curling the ball into the top corner of the net, sparking wild celebrations from the supporters.

That result virtually ruled Falkirk out of the race for automatic promotion and within a couple of weeks the title was wrapped up.

Speaking at the awards ceremony to Hibernian TV, Keatings said: “It was a very good feeling to score that goal. The thing that stuck in my mind when I scored was the feeling I had last season when we got knocked out by Falkirk, so it was obviously good to get the winner against them this time and it was a great goal.  I managed to get in onto my right foot and caught it perfect.

It came in the 92nd minute when we were going for the title against a team that have caused us problems for the last two years  so it was a good time to score.

“Winning promotion feels great. It’s been a long season and it dragged out near the end but it was great to finally get over the line and get this club back to where they belong.”
