The Hibs’  Training Centre hosted the GameChanger Choose Life Challenge Cup last Saturday as 20 teams registered to take part in a 7 aside competition focused on raising awareness around mental health.

GameChanger, the public social partnership involving Hibernian FC, Hibernian Community Foundation and NHS Lothian, joined forces with Choose Life, Health in Mind and Midlothian Council to put on the free event, combining football with the important topic of mental health. Breathing Space, the NHS and Choose Life also were on hand with pop up stalls offering further support to anyone who needed it on the day.

Barber Gabe Jordan was providing free haircuts to players and Radio Saltire offered their support to the event bringing some tunes to the occasion as teams Asda Athletic and Ladzio went on to win the GameChanger Choose Life Plate and the GameChanger Choose Life Challenge Cup respectively. Ryan Venesky from Clyde United won the sporting player award. Local MSP Iain Gray and Health in Mind Chief Executive Gwenn McCreath were on hand to present the prizes.

The winning teams will be back at Easter Road in September, around Suicide Prevention Week for a half-time penalty shoot-out challenge at a Hibernian FC home match.

Well done to everyone who took part in what was a very successful day.
