The clock in Morningside which used to keep rail commuters on time for their trains at Morningside Station, but which is still a key city landmark, has had some TLC. It appears that it has had a lot of TLC as it cost the council £16,000 to restore it to its former glory.

Councillor Donald Wilson, Culture and Communities Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “The Morningside Clock has been an Edinburgh landmark for over 130 years. The delicate conservation has been completed by hand and it is fantastic to see it so lovingly restored. I’m sure the local community will be glad to see its rightful return.”

Tony Charlesworth, Sales Manager (North) for James Ritchie & Son, part of the Smith of Derby group, said: “Standing atop its pillar in all weathers, the Morningside Clock was in need of repainting, glazing and mechanical repair. The colours had faded over the years but after weeks of careful conservation, we have returned it to its original state. This is how the clock would have looked when it was unveiled back in 1884. It has been a joy to restore and return.”
