Emerging Gaelic electronica duo WHɎTE (Alasdair Whyte and Ross Whyte) released their debut album, Fairich in October 2016.  Each from very different musical backgrounds (traditional Gaelic and ambient electronica), their music has drawn comparisons with Sigur Rós and Martyn Bennett.

WHɎTE will debut their show Fairich: Live at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe as part of the Made in Scotland Showcase.  The show is an immersive audio-visual experience featuring a performance of the album in its entirety with accompanying projected visuals courtesy of video artist Dan Shay.

Taking inspiration from Alasdair’s research interest in 17th- and 18th-century Gaelic song and poetry, the duo have worked on new ambient electronic arrangements of several rarely-heard songs as well as original
compositions.

Fairich was recorded in the late summer of 2016 at the University of Aberdeen and in a cave beneath Dunnottar Castle.

Since Fairich’s release, WHɎTE has received regular airplay on BBC Radio nan Gàidheal and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, as well as awards at the Danny Kyle Open Stage, Pan Celtic Festival 2017 and, most recently, the Nòs Ùr Songwriting Competition for their song ‘Cionran’.

Fairich: Live will be performed at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on 22-28 August, 3pm.
