Across Edinburgh there are many groups and charities organising events to help celebrate the World’s Biggest coffee Morning and raise funds for Macmillan.

The annual event brings together friends and communities.

Across the capital there is a lot of fundraising going on!

A new fully wrapped tartan bus has taken to the streets. The Lothian vehicle marks the start  of a new charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support that aims to raise vital funds to help local people and their families.

The bus, which is fully wrapped in Macmillan’s special Kinloch Anderson tartan, was piped out of Lothian’s Marine Garage by driver Paul Starr, prior to heading out on to the streets of Edinburgh. The bus, which will be used on various routes around the city, features key information and statistics to help raise awareness around Edinburgh.

Staff from across the business will also show support for the charity at the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

All Lothian drivers will also have the opportunity to wear a Macmillan branded pin badge and drivers of this special bus will have the option of wearing a tie woven in the Macmillan tartan when behind the wheel.

M&S events

The biggest coffee morning we can find is at M&S stores across Edinburgh including Princes St, Gyle, Ocean Terminal, Kinnaird, Chesser and Craigleith where as well as a coffee you can also throw a wet sponge at one of their store managers in exchange for a donation to the charity.

M&S Gyle will host a ‘101 Dalmatians’ coffee morning in celebration of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

The store is inviting shoppers and the local community to join them as they don fancy dress and host a variety of fundraising activities and entertainment for customers including an in-store musician in the hope of raising more funds than ever before for Macmillan.

M&S has already raised £10million for the charity in their eight year partnership, and this year they would like to raise more than last year’s total of £3.2m which funds 66 Macmillan healthcare professionals for a year.

Jenny McPartlin Store Manager at M&S Princes St, said: “We’ll have lots of fun activities happening at our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event on Friday 29 September, and hope to see as many of our customers as possible as we raise a mug to help beat cancer. The annual Coffee Morning is a great way to bring friends, family and communities together, all whilst raising funds for a fantastic cause. We hope that this year’s event will be our most successful yet!”

Throughout September, M&S customers will be able to enjoy a host of tasty treats in M&S Foodhalls, with 10 percent of each sale going to Macmillan. This includes M&S’s most popular cakes – the Victoria Sandwich and Lemon Drizzle – as well as biscuits, cupcakes and baking mixes. All M&S Cafés will also donate 5p from every hot drink and slice of cake sold during September to Macmillan.

GROSVENOR CASINO

Grosvenor Casino Edinburgh Maybury is set to take part in Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning by holding an afternoon tea with a difference.

Instead of a simple coffee and cake offering, guests will be treated to a delicious afternoon tea and a performance by local burlesque group, Sassy Von Sparklers.

Tickets for the event, which takes place from 1pm on Friday 29 September, are £10 per person. This includes a selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes with tea or coffee, entertainment by Sassy Von Sparklers, a short quiz and raffle, all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sassy Von Sparklers are a local burlesque group based in Edinburgh who have been performing together since April. They will be treating guests to a lively set performed to songs ranging from Lady Marmalade to You Can Leave Your Hat On.

Claire Meikle, Sales & Events Manager of Grosvenor Casino Edinburgh, commented: “We always aim to offer events which are a little bit different and our Macmillan Afternoon Tea will be no exception. The event will give locals the chance to get together in aid of a great cause, Macmillan, while enjoying some unique entertainment from the talented Sassy Von Sparklers.”

Sam van Kempen of Sassy Von Sparklers, said: “We’re all so excited to be dancing at this event in Grosvenor Casino Edinburgh Maybury and helping to raise money for Macmillan. Burlesque is about embracing who you are and believing in yourself which I think fits well with this event in aid of such an inspiring charity.”

Local MSP urges you to get involved

Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative & Unionist MSP for Lothian, is helping the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning pass its £200m fundraising total – by urging constituents to put the kettle in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Miles said: “ Many Lothian constituents have personal experiences of the problems a cancer diagnosis can bring to both patients and their families, and I know that Macmillan has been there to support many of those in need.

“ The care and support provided by Macmillan Cancer is world class and more funds are needed to allow it to continue to provide its services in our community.

“ I would urge constituents to consider holding their own coffee morning.”

Last year thousands of people across the UK took part in a Coffee Morning event, raising around £29.5m for Macmillan.

This year the total raised by Coffee Morning since it began in 1991 will pass the £200m mark.

The official day for World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Friday 29th September but you can hold your own event at a time to suit you.

It couldn’t be any simpler to get involved – all you need to do is get together with family, friends or colleagues over coffee and cake. You can register now for your free fundraising pack via the website – www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee – or find a Coffee Morning near you to get involved in.

Jeremy Balfour MSP is raising awareness to help the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning pass its £200m fundraising total and he wants local people to get involved.

Mr Balfour said: “I know a considerable number of constituents have personal experiences of the problems a cancer diagnosis can bring to both patients and their families, and I know that Macmillan has been there to support many of those in need.”

“Hold your own coffee morning. It’s an easy and fun way to raise money for Macmillan, and every penny you raise will help people with cancer.”
