The Edinburgh Big Curry held last month raised more than £11,000 to help soldiers, veterans and their families.

150 guests from organisations across the country attended the event at Assembly Rooms for the fifth year in a row.

The curry is prepared by a catering team which includes top army chefs, and the event in the capital began a UK wide campaign. This asks families and friends to get together to share a curry while raising some funds for the charity.

Organiser of The Edinburgh Big Curry and Regional Director for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity in Scotland, Charles Dunphie, said:

“We’re so grateful to everyone that attended the Edinburgh Big Curry and for the generosity we experienced on the day.

“It was a fantastic day, the memory of which has been made all the better by the amount of money we were able to raise.

“This support makes such a difference to the help we can give to Scotland’s soldiers, veterans and their families when they are in need.”

Head of Events for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, Stephen Oatley, said:   “The Edinburgh Big Curry was the perfect way to kick off our UK wide campaign for the Big Curry in 2017.

“We would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who came along and put their hand in their pocket to help secure the futures and the independence of all those that ABF The Soldiers’ Charity helps.

“We hope that many more people might be inspired by the Edinburgh event and its success to host their own Big Curry at home.”

How to take part in The Big Curry

To make things easy for everyone to take part and raise money, a registration website guides fundraisers through the ways in which they can host their own Big Curry.

Everyone who signs up to The Big Curry also receives a free fundraising pack to help make their event special. The pack includes a guide with recipes, spices, posters, collection tins and everything the host needs to throw an excellent Big Curry.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is also asking people to share The Big Curry experience by connecting via the campaign’s official Facebook and Twitter handles or The Soldiers’ Charity’s Instagram account.
