Hibs’ Head Coach Neil Lennon has praised the attitude of defender Darren McGregor who is fighting to get back into the team following a serious injury picked up earlier in the season.

Lifelong Hibs’ fan McGregor became a favourite amongst the supporters following his move from Rangers and is well respected by team mates and management alike.

Hibs face on-form Hamilton at New Douglas Park this afternoon and whilst the artificial surface is likely to prevent him starting at this stage of his comeback, Lennon has revealed that he will be in the squad.

With Paul Hanlon, Efe Ambrose and youngster Ryan Porteous available there is no need to rush McGregor’s return but Hibs face a hectic December which incudes back to back home games against Celtic and Rangers and an Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle so Lennon hopes that he will be available for then.

Speaking ahead of the game Lennon said: “He has had a horrendous time over the years with injuries but has never let it get him down. He just bounces back.

“He looks strong again and it’s good to see him out training. It might take him a bit of time to get up to full speed obviously, but he’s in the squad and he may feature.

“He has an aura about him and the players respect him, as do the management team. He’s a really good type and he loves the club.

“He’s chomping at the bit to get back and he has knocked on my door already!

“The plastic pitch is not great for the joints and we’re ok at centre-half, but he’ll definitely be in and around there.

“With December coming up and the volume of games we have it’s really good to have him back and he works like a demon in the gym and on his rehab.

“We have to build momentum as we’re in a really good position in the league and it’s important to stay there.

” Hamilton have had a really good start to the season and to say they’re well organised would be an understatement. They are very strong defensively and it’s going to be a really competitive game”
