I have to say it was the first story I read. I can see Mr Jamieson's point, but the Edinburgh Reporter is a catalyst - and stories like this lead to questions, such as those raised by Ms Morrison, and also point to wider issues in society. So there. Ooff! (that was the sound of me, falling off my high horse).

I'm afraid Lawrence that this is news. It is a crime under the Animal Welfare Act, alerts readers to the current dangers of leaving animals unattended, and also conveys community action and accountability, which is reflected in the van driver and blonde female who did not walk by, but became involved, coming to the animals aid. This newspaper's remit, as I understand it, is not only to report local news, but also to define, by its voluntary readership, the community it serves. Job done. It should also be noted that animal abuse is often correlated with domestic violence and other crimes. All animal abuse should therefore be taken very seriously.

Sad story but hardly "news". "Dog attacked in Leith" doesn't really get the blood pumping. You'll be giving the The Sunday Post and People's Friend a run for their money at this rate...

BT Openreach may have enabled fibre in those 5 exchanges, but they are purposely delaying enabling the city centre exchanges (Rose Street and Waverley) so that they can continue to milk as much money out of the businesses based there for as long as possible.
They are doing the same across many other cities across the UK too, so their claims that they are "bringing a welcome boost for local economies" is somewhat misleading.

I used to get my smokes from Carolyn almost everyday at the petrol station, such a lovely person, always up for a chat, always smiling.
Will miss her and send my condolences to her family and friends.
RIP Carolyn

BROKEN BRITAIN UNDER TORIES – BIG BROTHER –POLICE STATE.
GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN WEBSITE.After applying for an Epetition after one had expired for David Nicholson to resign and be stripped of his knighthood and naming the Cabinet office as the Department responsible Yola shut my Website down with a curt email stating my content was not in keeping with their content policy. It took them 7 months to decide that. Also there was no reply email from Epetitions either- if one was cynical enough one could conclude that the Cabinet Office probably had a hand in the decision.Nicholson must have some pretty damaging knowledge about the powers that be to still hold onto his job after NHS scandal after scandal.Corruption holds no Bounds. www.brokenbritainundertories.com

I am very pleased to see that small businesses aim to prove their worth by assisting others in this way. I hope it leads to more customers and stable custom.

BROKEN BRITAIN UNDER TORIES – A CHANGE IS AS GOOD AS A REST & DON’T WE NEED ONE.
Individually and Collectively the last 30 years of Political Lies and Spin have made many differences to our lives Non for the Better. We vote for personalities and their supposed achievements.Their Personalities are False and their achievements are Zero.We the Tax payer pay for different Companies to carry out whatever is dreamt up and suffer the consequences. If you were as Thick as so called ‘Ministers’ and were told “sorry the bill has risen” you would remonstrate and probably sack them , unfortunately nobody in Government can do that because they are clueless and in a situation too deep to withdraw. They Waste Billions of our money and we suffer whilst they reward the rich.If you don’t want Riots on our streets vote accordingly.www.brokenbritainundertories.com.
