Edinburgh Capitals are leading the way in development opportunities for prospective professional hockey players in the UK with the introduction of the Edinburgh Capitals Elite Hockey Academy.

The programme will be held at Murrayfield Ice Rink, Edinburgh and will run for 6 months, from October to March. It will provide significantly improved development opportunities in the UK for the Under 16 to Under 20 age groups.

The Academy will cater for 4 categories of student:
1. Under 20s player – 2 hours training/games per week.
2. Capitals SNL/Junior Under 20 – minimum of 4.15 hours of training & games per week.
3. Capitals Junior Elite – minimum of 8.15 hours of training/games per week (4 training hours will be with the Edinburgh Capitals Elite team).
4. Capitals Junior Elite Residential – minimum of 8.15 hours of training/games per week (4 training hours will be with the Edinburgh Capitals Elite team).

Categories 3 and 4 will be subject to ability and a maximum of 6 students will be selected for the Capitals Junior Elite positions.

Edinburgh Capitals Elite Hockey Academy plays with an Under 20 Junior team, a Scottish National League team and the professional Edinburgh Capitals Elite League team.

A training camp is conducted at the beginning of the season to evaluate all students and to place them on the appropriate team according to skill and attitude.

Applications for Capitals Junior Elite players will be assessed by the Edinburgh Capitals coaching staff and successful applicants will be eligible to play with the Elite team. (Please note residential candidates need to be at least 18 years of age).

The goal of the Elite Hockey Academy is to develop skill, speed, strength and an understanding of the game to allow students the best opportunity to reach their hockey goals and potential.

FURTHER EDUCATION
Elite Hockey Academy students are encouraged to pursue further education at one of Edinburgh’s Universities or Colleges. Assistance will be provided in this area to help Elite Hockey Academy students find a suitable course that can integrate with their hockey timetable.
