Times of butlers, maids and corsets to deal with the aftermath of the cream sponge.

Where can you still enjoy the afternoon tea experience?

1

The Balmoral offers afternoon tea in The Bollinger Bar for £21 a head or £33.50 when you quaff a wee glass of Bolly with it. Anytime between 1.30 and 5.30 is apparently afternoon tea time on Princes Street. They offer a variety of sandwiches, scones and shortbread, and it is all delicious. The Reporter very much enjoyed afternoon tea there the other week – sans champagne however in the interests of sobriety!

The Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa offers a complimentary glass of prosecco when ordering the Pink Afternoon Tea for just £17.95. The menu encompasses assorted sandwiches and viennoise bridge rolls, scones and cupcakes, champagne jelly and a pink chocolate dipped strawberry, and of course your choice of tea and coffee.

The Scotsman Hotel does afternoon tea in the North Bridge Brasserie offering sandwiches with scones jam and clotted cream. This seems like good value – afternoon tea for two is priced at £20 or £40 per person with a glass of champagne. It is available from 2.30 till 4.30 every afternoon.

Prestonfield House Hotel offers luxurious Afternoon Tea either by the side of a log fire or in the rose-filled gardens…..or even in the gothic tea house! Served daily from 3 till 6pm it would set you back £16.95 for Afternoon tea and £25.95 if you want to experience the champagne version.

And if none of these inspire you then Informedin have some other ideas about where to go for tea!
