Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery that happened in the Wester Hailes area of the Capital.

The incident happened around 11.30am on Monday August 16 in the underpass at the junction of Calder Road and Wester Hailes Road. This is the same underpass which is leading to calls for a surface crossing on Calder Road at an anticipated cost of around £150,000.

The 17-year-old victim was walking through the underpass towards Calder Road when she was approached by the suspect, who grabbed her and stole her handbag and mobile phone.

He is described as white, in his late teens, 5ft 7ins tall, with dark hair, skinny build, and unshaven. He was wearing a khaki coloured hooded top, with black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers, with a blue sole.

A police spokesman said: “Thankfully the victim wasn’t injured, however she was left shaken as a result of what happened, and we are appealing for any information that can help us identify the suspect.

“Anyone who was in the area of Calder Road at the time the incident took place, who saw anyone acting suspiciously there, should contact police.

“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect should also get in touch.”
