Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses following a bag snatch in Midlothian.

The incident happened around 5.30pm on  16th September in Dundas Street, Bonnyrigg.

A 34-year-old woman had just passed the entrance to Sincyr Park at the old railway line when a male approached and grabbed at her handbag and carrier bag.

A struggle ensued and the victim was forced to ground where she suffered a suspected broken ankle.

The suspect then made off with the bags through the park and towards Durham Grove.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, between 22 and 24-years-old, 5ft 8ins tall with a stocky build, stubbly tanned complexion with moles on his left cheek and short dark-brown hair that was gelled at the front.

He was wearing a dark hooded top, jogging bottoms and white trainers.

A police spokesman said: “This has been an extremely upsetting incident for the victim and has left her with a painful injury to her ankle.

“We have been given an excellent description of the suspect and would now urge anyone who believes they recognise the male to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, anyone who was in the area and witnessed the robbery or who has information that can assist with our enquiries is also asked to get in touch.”
