Musselburgh-Racecourse-1The Royal Scots has Musselburgh Racecourse in its sights as it prepares to annexe the Honest Toun for its annual race day meeting on Sunday 26th September.

Massed bands, including the Royal Scots Association Pipe Band and The Lowland TA Band will signal the start of the day, leaving from the Mercat Cross and marching to the racecourse.

A range of Army activities and displays include an inflatable assault course and a climbing tower, but the highlight of the afternoon will be a visit from the ever popular Golden Lions Freefall Parachute Display Team who will drop in to the East Lothian track.

Younger families can enjoy attractions including dodgem cars, trampolines, a roundabout and bouncy castle slide. Face painters, Baxter Bear, pony racing and a horse racing craft workshop will also feature in the afternoon.

And Channel 4’s popular racing pundit, Derek ‘Tommo’ Thompson will be providing his own brand of commentary and expert analysis on the day’s seven flat races.

Musselburgh Racecourse commercial manager, Sarah Montgomery, said the racecourse had made a big effort to put on a family friendly day and was looking forward to welcoming the Royal Scots.

She said: “It is one of our most popular family meetings and the Royal Scots always go down well at Musselburgh. You can’t fail to be impressed when you see the Massed Bands marching in to the course and there is something to do for everyone, no matter age or ability.

“We are delighted to also welcome back the Golden Lions parachute team and providing the weather is fine they will get a very warm reception when they make the jump at around 3.40pm.”

More than £40,000 in prize money is on offer over the seven races, including the feature race at 4pm, the EBF 5k handicap for three year olds over 1 mile.

Gates open at noon, the Massed Bands are due to arrive at 12.30pm and the pony racing starts at 1pm with the first flat race off at 2.15pm

Race goers booking in advance receive a 10% discount and group bookings of up to 25% are available. Children aged 16 and under are admitted free with an adult.
