Police in Edinburgh are investigating an assault on a 16-year-old female in the Wester Hailes area of the Capital on Thursday night.

The victim had got off a bus at the top of Clovenstone Drive around 9.20pm, and was walking on a path leading to Clovenstone Park when she was approached by the suspect.

He grabbed her, and pushed her head into railings that run parallel to the path. The victim fought back, and managed to make her escape, running away towards Clovenstone Drive.

The suspect is described as black, in his late 20s, medium build, with a bald head, and wearing a diamond stud in his left ear, and a black leather jacket. He spoke with a local accent.

A police spokesman said: ‘While she wasn’t seriously injured, the victim was nevertheless distressed as a result of her ordeal, and we are appealing for any information that can help us trace the suspect.

‘Anyone who was in the area at the time, who either saw what happened, or noticed the suspect there, should contact police immediately.

‘Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect, or who has any other information that can assist our inquiries, should also get in touch.’
