Wine lovers are being the chance to learn about the world’s finest vintages and vineyards in a series of specialist classes in Edinburgh’s wine ‘school’.

Edinburgh’s newest wine bar Divino Enoteca is to host a series of wine education classes in its private room, each class designed to help create a better understanding and appreciation of the wines available at the venue.

Head sommelier Sebastiano Ingaliso will pick the wines for the three different course levels which are being operated in partnership with Case Studies Wine School.

For beginners or part time enthusiasts, the Buon Vino Club provides the perfect introduction to the world of wine. Running every other Wednesday, pupils will sample up to six different varieties which have been specially selected from the venue’s wine list.

As well as tasting fine Italian wines, pupils will also get the chance to sample a guest wine from a different country each session – broadening their wine knowledge even further.

Each session will be lead by wine enthusiast Tom Offey and Case Studies founder Claire Blackler, who will provide information about the vintage and region and demonstrate how to taste wines in a way that they can be appreciated.

The next stage Mondovino course, which runs on selected Saturdays throughout the year, provides further information about wine, going into more detail about its origins, the grape varietals, flavours and body.

During the day long course which culminates in a relaxing dinner at Vittoria on the Bridge, Claire and Tom will lead the pupils on a sensory tasting journey through some of Italy and the world’s finest wines. They will be shown how to expertly identify each one and provide complementary food and drink matches.

Later this year, Divino Enoteca will also offer a Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) course for those who wish to become professional wine enthusiasts. A government recognised course, pupils will be provided with extensive training by a series of wine specialists, who will leave no stone unturned when it comes to wine knowledge.

Over the course of nine weeks they will learn everything there is to know about wine from the grape to the glass and will sit an examination at the end, providing them with a recognised qualification.

Sebastiano said: “At Divino Enoteca we don’t want to confuse customers, instead we want to pass on our knowledge and passion about wine to them.

“The series of wine classes will help people develop and share the love we have for good wine.”

Claire Blackler founder of Case Studies Wine School has more than five years professional experience in the wine sector, was approached by Divino Enoteca owner Tony Crolla to oversee all the courses after being recommended through Enotria who are the bar’s main wine suppliers.

Claire said: “I am really excited to be involved with the wine courses at Divino Enoteca. It’s an amazing venue and provides something unique and special for Scotland’s wine lovers so it is probably the best ‘school’ anyone could ask for.

“The selection of wines on their wine list is unbelievable and I am really looking forward to getting stuck in and sampling them all.

“Sebastiano really knows his stuff when it comes to Italian wine and the lessons are a great opportunity for both him and myself to share our knowledge and passion about wine with others.

“We have designed the lessons with all types of wine enthusiast in mind ranging from the beginner to the more advanced and hope that members of the public will come along and see what they can learn.”

All lessons will be held in the Divino Enoteca’s specially designed wine education room, which is nestled at the heart of the venue. The 14 seat room provides an intimate and relaxed atmosphere making it the perfect venue to learn about and enjoy the wines on offer.

Divino Enoteca claims to be the first venue in Scotland to offer state of the art enomatic wine dispensers to preserve the flavour and body of the wine, prove that the venue is ideally placed when it comes to providing wine expertise.
