Some notable honours for Scots this year including our very own George Kerr who has devoted his whole life to the sport of judo. Well done George!

On the New Year Honours List for 2011, Professor Lewis Ritchie, General Medical Practitioner and Honorary Consultant in Public Health, receives a knighthood for services to the NHS in Scotland.

Among those in Scotland to receive a CBE are:

* Professor Stephen Blackmore, Regius Keeper, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, for services to plant conservation
* Gerard Eadie, for services to the glazing industry and to the voluntary sector in Scotland
* George Kerr, for services to judo
* Professor John Wallace, Principal, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, for services to dance, music and drama education in Scotland

Recipients of the OBE include:

* Dr George Crooks, Medical Director, NHS 24 and the Scottish Ambulance Service, for services to healthcare
* Magnus Macfarlane-Barrow, for services to Mary’s Meals Charity
* Annie Lennox, for services to charity
* Douglas MacLean, for services to music and to charity in Scotland
* Margaret, Viscountess Thurso, for services to the community in Caithness
* Margaret Moffat, for charitable services in North Ayrshire
* George Walker, for charitable services
* Ronald Watt, for services to karate

Among those receiving an MBE are:

* Thomas Attenburgh, for services to the scouts in Edinburgh
* James McKillop for voluntary service to people with dementia in Scotland
* William McMurray, Salvation Army Envoy, for services to the community in Stirling
* Dr Tracey Menzies, for services to women’s hockey
* Margaret Mullen, school crossing warden, Dysart Primary School Fife, for services to education
* John Rendall, for services to the community in Hoy and Walls, Orkney
* Ronald Ross, for services to shinty in Scotland
* Ian Shanley, ICT General Manager, Scottish Ambulance Service, for services to emergency healthcare
