Have your say on the issue of poverty in the capital by attending a debate on 5 March organised by the Edinburgh Association of Community Councils together with the Edinburgh Partnership.

The debate, which will focus on ways of tackling poverty in the capital with the aim of shaping future policy, will be held on Saturday 5th March at City Chambers from 9.30-12 noon.

Chaired by Chairman of the Edinburgh Association of Community Councils, David Salton, the five panellists speaking in the debate will be:

Gillian Tee, Director Children and Families, City of Edinburgh Council

Kathryn Busby, Equality Trust Steering Group

Des Loughney, Edinburgh Trade Union Council

Robin Tennant, Fieldwork Manager for Poverty Alliance

Cllr Norman Work, Vice-convener for Health and Social Care

Ahead of the debate, City of Edinburgh Council Leader and Chair of the Edinburgh Partnership, Councillor Jenny Dawe said:

“This event will act as a real forum for a stimulating and valuable exchange of ideas. The Edinburgh Partnership is committed to ensuring that everyone in this city has the opportunity to reach their true potential no matter what their background, and the debate will have a real relevance to future policy in Edinburgh.”

A report with recommendations based on issues discussed on the day will be submitted to the Edinburgh Partnership – the community planning partnership for Edinburgh which leads on various issues facing the city and involves representatives from key public and voluntary organisations, strategic partnerships, business and community sectors.

The partnership’s priorities include sustainable economic development, affordable housing, social inclusion and introducing measures to tackle climate change.
