A man suffered burns and smoke inhalation and three others including a seven year old child needed treatment after a fire broke out in a flat in Edinburgh in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were alerted to the blaze in Parkgrove Bank, in the Drumbrae area of Edinburgh, at 5am. At the scene they found the ground floor flat heavily smoke logged.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus and a high‐pressure hose reel battled to extinguish the fire.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said:

“A 59‐year‐old man was taken to hospital suffering from burns to his face and severe smoke inhalation. “Three others, a seven‐year‐old boy, a 33‐year‐old man, and a 51‐year‐old woman were led to safety from the stairwell and given oxygen at the scene. They were suffering from smoke inhalation.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.”
