Edinburgh Castle is hosting a wedding open day on Sunday 22nd May from 11:00 to 16:00. This will give prospective brides and grooms a chance to see the £360,000 newly refurbished facilities at Edinburgh Castle to enable them to have the wedding day of their dreams.
Nick Finnigan, Executive Manager, Edinburgh Castle said: “Wedding fever is in the air, with Edinburgh taking its place on the world’s stage as the venue for the next Royal Wedding. Everyone wants their wedding to be romantic and memorable and the right setting is really important. That’s why we have so many marriage proposals taking place here.
“Edinburgh Castle has the wow factor when it comes to hosting weddings with its fascinating history, unique setting and panoramic views across the city. In addition we have a new catering partner, the award-winning Benugo, whose excellent chefs have created carefully crafted menus, served in full silver service. We look forward to welcoming couples and showing them the fantastic facilities we have here to make their wedding day so special. ”
Couples can either register their interest beforehand by emailing the Weddings team on email@example.com or just turn up on the day. They will be asked to fill out an enquiry form at Visitor Information where they will be given a Castle map with the wedding locations marked on it and will receive a complimentary ticket, so they can enjoy looking around the Castle.
There are three venues: St Margaret’s Chapel, The Gatehouse Suite and the Queen Anne Room.
St Margaret’s Chapel is the oldest venue, dating back to the 12th century. It is the oldest building in Edinburgh and is available for small, intimate, religious wedding ceremonies with a capacity of 25 guests. The cobbled area outside the Chapel affords spectacular panoramic views across the City and beyond. The Stewards who work at the Castle say this is the most popular place for marriage proposals.
The 19th century Gatehouse Suite, classically decorated with original wood panelling is situated at the entrance to the Castle. It offers an ideal venue for small wedding ceremonies, whilst the adjoining Ante Room is perfect for drinks and canapés. Access is also available to a private terrace which has superb views of the Royal Mile and the city of Edinburgh, which provides a stunning backdrop for wedding photographs. It can accommodate 40 guests and can host Civil, Religious and Humanist ceremonies.
The recently refurbished Queen Anne Room is set in the heart of Edinburgh Castle in Crown Square. It will be set up for a ceremony with a few show tables and refreshments will be served. 80 guests, (seated) can be accommodated here and up to 170 guests for dancing. The Queen Anne Room can host civil, religious and humanist ceremonies and can also include a private viewing of Scotland’s Crown Jewels.
