January has been another remarkable month for Aikengall Community Wind Farm which is located south of Dunbar in East Lothian.

After the record breaking month of December, which saw Aikengall Community Wind Farm export over 20,000 Megawatt hours (MWh) to the local grid network, the 16 turbine wind farm has continued to excel by providing an exceptional output of over 18000 MWh in January. This is enough to power over 46,000 homes and prevents the release of over 7,760 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere.

On its most productive day, Aikengall Community Wind Farm produced over 1 million Kilowatt hours of electricity, which equates to an overwhelming capacity factor of 92%. The overall capacity factor for January once again far exceeded the industry standard of 30% reaching an impressive 50%.

These figures further confirm the positive contribution that Aikengall Community Wind Farm is making to the East Lothian Council area and Scotland as a whole. They also reinforce the fact that wind farms are an extremely efficient and cost effective form of renewable energy when located in the correct area.

The Eastern Lammermuir Plateau is an isolated, upland location with few residential properties. The area has an outstanding wind resource, combined with excellent accessibility to the major road network and grid connection infrastructure and has overall proven to be an ideal location for wind farm developments.
