Jamie Paterson is the Scottish Liberal Democrats candidate for Leith Walk Ward.

Jamie was born and brought up in the Highlands. He is the son of an Easter Ross farmer and former Highland Councillor. He attended Hilton and Nigg Primary Schools before moving to a preparatory school and then Gordonstoun. Although rooted in Scotland and, in particular, in the Highlands, his experience of working in London, Australia and the US has given him an international outlook. His more recent experience of working for two Highland MSPs has increased his understanding of the issues that affect the Highlands, and his commitment to the area and to its people

Jamie now lives in Edinburgh with his wife Flavia, they have one child. Jamie enjoys walking with their cocker spaniel, Bracken and tries to get out of Edinburgh when he can. He is a keen amateur aquarist and enjoys diving. He reads widely but has a particular weakness for science fiction.

While growing up, Jamie worked on the farm during school holidays. After leaving school he worked for a car export company in Holland Park, London where he was responsible for the purchase, export and delivery of vehicles being sent to Thailand. He later worked in the United Sates building dry stane walls, using the skills he picked up on the family farm with its 12 miles of dry stone walls. He then worked in the Australian outback as a farm hand. After returning home to the Highlands, he worked at Skibo Castle near Dornoch as an estate worker. In 1999, Jamie moved to Edinburgh to work as the Parliamentary Assistant to Jamie Stone MSP and John Farquhar Munro MSP where he is currently still employed. His role involves preparing and writing speeches, dealing with the media, and working with constituents.
