Police in Edinburgh have seized a large quantity of weapons following a morning raid on a business premises in the city centre today.

Six officers from the Capital took part in the operation, which resulted in around 1000 weapons, including samurai swords, broadswords, axes, daggers and knives being recovered from the property.

The potential retail value of the seized weapons is estimated by police to be around £100,000

Today’s activity was carried out as part of an intelligence-led operation to identify businesses selling weapons without the necessary permissions.

All of the items, which were removed today, will now be destroyed.

A 45-year-old woman has been charged for alleged licensing offences and will now be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Inspector Alun Williams, from the Central Policing Team in Edinburgh said:- “Knives and other bladed articles can have a devastating impact on our communities and Police Scotland is committed to keeping people safe by removing dangerous weapons from our streets.

“If and when we identify businesses or individuals believed to be selling weapons without an appropriate licence, we will respond accordingly to seize these items and cease their trading of such goods.

“Violent crime, including knife and weapon offences will not be tolerated and anyone found to be involved in the inappropriate supply, or indeed, the use of such items will be robustly dealt with.”
