Arctic Cowboys: Friends of the Earth Scotland activists demonstrate against Cairn Energy’s oil extraction actions in the Arctic – outside Edinburgh’s Caledonian Hotel, where the corporation held its’ shareholders AGM today (Thursday 16th May 2013). They are pictured with a polar ‘iceberg’ and cowboy uniforms – revealing Cairn’s “cowboy tactics”, FoES says.
Cairn’s exploration and extraction plans for the Arctic will put the area at risk from major oil spills, and come on the same day as further details of BP’s excalating financial losses following the major leak in the Gulf of Mexico.
