Dads Rock is an organisation which runs free fun playgroups for dads and their children in Scotland. In Edinburgh they meet in Wester Hailes at WHALE Arts Agency, and they use music, storytelling healthy eating snacks and games to promote learning through play.  Now they are planning to offer free music sessions.

This is what they say about themselves on their website:-

“This is a unique project, to date we believe we will be the only organisation offering this in Scotland.  The benefits of Kids learning music are well known, it improves social skills, increases confidence, helps them to focus, helps the brain to develop and is AWESOME!

The academy will offer free weekly music tuition to local kids from ages 5-16 years.  It will be open to kids and dads from Edinburgh and the surrounding area.

We will offer places to approximately. 25 kids, as well as their dads.
They will get a free musical instrument and weekly tuition. We are working in with Edinburgh College who will provide the facilities and tutors, who will be their students.
Edinburgh College will be adding participation in the Academy into their curriculum.   The Academy will be based at the Music Box, Sighthill Campus.
It will launch in October 2013,  but over the summer we will be opening up for applications and choosing our first year of students.  We really do want a range of ages and experience, and ideally we want the Dad to learn an instrument at the same time with their kids.
