Ever felt trapped, claustrophobic, boxed in? We understand. Sorry Girl’s box is so empty it echoes. How do you meet your life-long partner? Speed dating? Singles archery? Mahjong Meet Up? Busy Mum’s box is loud and crowded. Nothing else will squeeze in. It’s at full capacity. How do you stretch a box that feels so rigid? Chris and Kris haven’t thought much about their boxes in a long time, but they did buy their lotto tickets this week…
Come on a fun, hilarious and crazy journey as our characters discover what it feels like to go in as the underdog and come out the champions… of life. The characters of This is My Box stumble, stutter and salsa their way through each day, backed by a funky soundscape created live by two performers and their boxes.
This is My Box is a fun and funky sound, comedy and character experiment. Sydney performers and writers Karena Thomas and Karli Evans and their faithful ‘boxes’ or vocal loopers will take the audience on an hour of power; through wicked comedy, live vocal looping and a little bit of bump and grind.
This is My Box, a Sydney Fringe Festival hit, punches out a cast of lonely characters in their search for happiness, all before the full time bell at 52 minutes. This is soul-searching, but not as you know it; it delivers darkly humorous sparing, politically incorrect sidekicks and sometimes surreal scenes that will sneak up on you when you’re taking a moments breath.
John graduated from Telford College in 2010 with an HNC in Practical Journalism and since then he worked for the North Edinburgh News, The Southern Reporter, the Irish News Review and The Edinburgh Reporter. In addition he has been published in the Edinburgh Evening News and the Hibernian FC Programme.
