A Hearts fan who ran onto the pitch at Tynecastle during the Edinburgh derby has been banned from attending games for the next two years.

Eighteen year old Callum Menzies was given a Community Payback Order with 12 month supervision and had a two year Football Banning Order at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

The Banning Order means that he will be banned from all regulated football matches throughout the whole of the United Kingdom for a period of two years.

During the match at Tynecastle on 12 May this year Hibs had just scored when Menzies kicked open a gate and ran onto the field of play. He ran the down the pitch towards Hibs fans before being apprehended by police and stewards and then struggled violently with them while shouting a tirade of abuse at the fans.

Speaking following sentencing Faith Millar Football Liaison Prosecutor for the East of Scotland, said: “The actions of Callum Menzies were reckless and irresponsible and caused alarm to others as well as spoiling the enjoyment of football fans.

“Disorderly conduct at football matches will not be tolerated. Any conduct of this nature will be robustly investigated and the perpetrators dealt with accordingly.

“Prosecutors will continue to work with the police to take whatever measures are necessary to protect genuine fans from criminal behaviour while attending football matches.
