image002-5Italian Captain MiIgliorino Ubaldini is the latest character to be brought back to life at The Real Mary King’s Close and is already proving popular with UK and International visitors alike.

The history story surrounding Captain Ubaldini was discovered after present day Italian Massimiliano Puddu joined the team at The Real Mary King’s Close prompting the attraction’s research team to discover he was not the first Italian to have walked within the warren of underground streets.

Until now, Italian Captain Ubaldini who is played by Puddu was last seen frequenting the closes of Edinburgh’s Old Town back in 1548 during his service in Scotland as a military engineer.  Examples of his designs included fortifications at the entrances of notable Scottish castles and Edinburgh’s city walls.

As well as being a highly skilled engineer, Ubladini was considered a famous Captain of his time which led to his appointment as supreme commander of all Scottish forces during the Rough Wooing both on land and at sea.

Craig Miller, General Manager at The Real Mary King’s Close says: “To have an Italian character tour guide adds an exciting addition to our existing tour offering.  It gives us an opportunity to bring another element of Edinburgh’s history to life whilst ensuring an enhanced visitor experience to the many Italian visitors we welcome through our doors each year.   This latest addition follows the introduction of our Spanish language tour that has proved popular amongst our Spanish visitors since its launch over two years ago.”

The introduction of character tour guide Captain Ubaldini forms part of the attraction’s ten year celebrations which include The Dark Truth Tour as part of this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.  Celebrations will culminate with “Close Fest” which launches in Halloween and promises to show off the attraction as never before.

To celebrate the revival of Captain Ubaldini, our next door neighbours, the newly opened Zizzi’s Roxburgh Court are offering The Real Mary King’s Close customers 25% off their food bill until the end of September, just show your receipt to waiting staff on arrival.

Further details will be released on the website with booking recommended by calling 0845 070 6244 or going online at www.realmarykingsclose.com.
