Police Scotland is appealing for assistance from a taxi driver, who may be able to assist with an on-going serious sexual assault investigation.

The incident was reported to detectives on Thursday 6th June, having occurred in the early hours of Saturday 1st June.

A 23-year-old woman had been drinking with a male at the Cav nightclub in Tollcross, Edinburgh, before the pair shared a black cab to East Lothian at around 3.20am.

After being dropped off at her home address in Ormiston, the woman then contacted police later that week to report having been assaulted during the journey.

Officers have since been carrying out various lines of enquiry to trace the taxi driver and are now issuing a public appeal for him to come forward. The victim was wearing a black and white polka dot dress.

Detective Inspector Carol Craig said: “We are keen to trace the driver of this vehicle as soon as possible to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

“Any black cab drivers who believe they picked up a couple near the Cav nightclub on the Saturday 1st June, before travelling to East Lothian, are asked to contact police immediately.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
