Police  are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in the east of the city which happened around 12.30am this morning.

A 42-year-old woman was walking on Willowbrae Avenue at the junction with Glenlee Avenue, when two men approached her, presented a knife and snatched jewellery that she was wearing which resulted in minor injuries.

A red leather LuLu handbag and a black Vivian Westwood purse were also stolen during the attack.

The males fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The first suspect is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, slim build, wearing a black top, which had reflective patches on the elbows, a dark scarf and a dark hat, with a very young sounding Edinburgh accent.

The second suspect is described as white 5ft 10in tall, wearing a reddy/brown puffa jacket and a light coloured scarf.

Detective Sergeant Graham Grant said: “Thankfully the victim was not seriously injured during this incident however is understandably shaken up.

“The handbag and purse have not been recovered and officers are appealing for anyone who might have knowledge to come forward.”

“We are keen for any information that can help us trace the suspects, and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any other information that can assist our inquiries, to contact police immediately.
