TER Fire Engine

Got some little ones to entertain this weekend? Then we may have the answer. Get along to North Berwick where they are opening their doors to the public for an open day on Saturday 8 June 2014 from 11am – 3pm.

This free day welcomes locals to enjoy a selection of displays, community safety demonstrations and fun activities run by the station firefighters and other partner agencies.

Watch Manager David Roulstone said: “This open day is a great free family day out.  Fire engines will be on display and visitors will be able to see the huge range of equipment that are carried on board each appliance which allows fire fighters to deal with any emergency from firefighting, attending road traffic collisions, working at height to water rescue.

“One of our community safety vehicles will also be available and staff will be on hand to give advice about fire safety, answer questions and arrange FREE home fire safety visits.

“Throughout the day the crew from North Berwick will be running a series of demonstrations using pumps and ladders to give a taste of what is expected for anyone wishing to join, and advice will be on hand regarding careers in the Service and how to apply. We also have a variety of stalls including face painting, home baking, tombola, bouncy castle and a raffle.”

While the aim of the day is to have fun, show people the inside of a retained fire station and pass on advice regarding about fire safety, the crew will also be fundraising for three very special charities – Leuchie House, North Berwick Youth Project and The Fire Fighters Charity.

Leuchie House provides high quality respite breaks with 24-hour expert nursing care for people and their families living with long-term physical conditions, such as MS, stroke, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease and cerebral palsy. The only place of its kind in Scotland, Leuchie is an independent charity which relies on donations and support from volunteers and fundraisers to continue providing high-quality breaks.

North Berwick Youth Project works with young people to create an environment where they are given responsibility and the opportunity to make positive changes in their lives and their communities. North Berwick Youth Cafe has been running for about 20 years and was one of the first ever Youth Cafes in Britain, providing a safe and fun environment for young people from North Berwick and the surrounding villages.

The Fire Fighters Charity is the UK’s leading provider of services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired fire fighters, fire personnel and their families, supporting people in the fire and rescue community when they are in need. Over the years, the charity has helped hundreds of thousands of individuals by providing world-class treatment and support services. It costs £9 million a year to keep the Charity running and with no government funding the Charity is completely reliant on the generosity of the public.

Watch Manager David Roulstone said: “We would love to see as many people from our local community there as possible – come along and join us for a fun family day out.”
