Police are appealing for information after two men armed with a baseball bat robbed a shop in Whitburn yesterday afternoon.

The men entered the Glenmore Mini Market at around 3.45pm, and made off with the shop’s till before dropping it outside and fleeing.

A 60-year-old woman was taken to St John’s Hospital for treatment as a result of the incident.

Detective Sergeant Grant Paterson, of Livingston CID, said: “This was a frightening and serious episode in a local shop that has left one woman shocked and requiring medical treatment.

“An investigation is underway to ascertain the full circumstances and our officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area.”

The first suspect is described as white, in his 20s, between 5ft 5in and 5ft 9in, of slim/average build and with short, brown hair. It is understood he was wearing either a green camouflage jacket or bottoms and had a scarf covering his face.

The second suspect is described as white, in his 20s, about 5ft 9in, and of slim/average build. He is believed to have been wearing a black, grey and white camouflage jacket, with trousers of the same design and also had a scarf covering his face.

Detective Sergeant Paterson added: “We would urge anyone who witnessed the event or saw anything suspicious in the Glenmore area of Whitburn this afternoon to get in touch immediately.

“Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
