Police have had a “fantastic response” from the public after an 85-year-old woman was left with “life-threatening injuries” during an attack in her home in Morningside Grove, Edinburgh.

The pensioner was discovered by her husband after he returned from a trip to the shops at 5pm on Friday.

Police issued appeals over the weekend and on Monday this week, in a bid to find who was responsible for the attack.

A police spokesman said: “The officer in charge of the inquiry says theyā€™ve had a fantastic response from the public, but heā€™s urging people to keep coming forward.

“We want to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in and around the Morningside Grove area. Even small pieces of information could prove vital.”

Specifically they want to speak to anyone who saw a man loitering in the street around the time of the attack. He is aged between 18 and 30, of average build, with short dark hair.

Anyone with any information about the attack is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
