Rob Roy team

“Public Spoketor”, a team of employees from the Council’s Legal, Risk and Compliance section and their corporate clients, has successfully completed the 55-mile Rob Roy Challenge 2014, raising over £4,000 for charity.

Now in its ninth year, the Rob Roy Challenge is a 16-mile run, followed by a 39-mile cycle, through the Trossachs. The challenge is the main fundraising event for the Martin Currie Charitable Foundation, the principal beneficiaries of which are WaterAid, Over the Wall and Barnardo’s Scotland.

As part of the challenge, each team member was required to raise £350, which was donated to the Martin Currie Charitable Foundation. Through various fundraising activities – including a pub quiz night, “Spring Fling”, guess the baby competition, World Cup sweepstake and bake sales –the team have raised £4,123.47 to date, well in excess of their target.

The success of the team was not restricted to their fundraising activities, with team members Ross Murray and Heather McClure completing the challenge as the tenth fastest male and fifth fastest female respectively.

Heather McClure, Team Captain, said: “The team has worked exceptionally hard to balance training for the challenge itself with our fundraising activities. We are extremely grateful for the support and generosity we have received from our colleagues in Legal, Risk and Compliance and the wider Council, which has made all of our efforts worthwhile. A special thanks goes to our fantastic support team, coordinated by Lizzie Connell, who kept us fed, watered and motivated throughout the challenge!”

Unbelievably it is the last day of the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival today and we can only recommend that you go to see as many shows as you can before it finished but especially Bill Wyman.
