If you live or work in Colinton and are interested in becoming a community councillor then the time is right. The council has opened nominations for places on the newest community council in the city.

The city’s community councils are involved in each of its 12 Neighbourhood Partnerships and work with the Council and other organisations to represent the views of local people. They will continue to have a role even if the council reorganisation goes ahead as planned.

Anyone aged 16 or over and on the electoral role for the Colinton Community Council area can put themselves forward by filling out a nomination form by 26th January. Visit the Council website or call 0131 529 3402 for more details of how to apply.

Councillor Maureen Child, Convener of the Communities and Neighbourhoods Committee, said: “Community Councils are a great way for people to make a real difference in their local area by working with the Council and other organisations to promote the needs of the community.

“I would encourage anyone interested in helping to start Colinton Community Council to get involved for the opportunity to meet a range of local people and share ideas for improving the neighbourhood.”
