Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to an assault and robbery at the Meadows which took place around 2am this morning.

Three men approached a 20-year-old male, who was walking on Middle Meadow Walk, and engaged him in conversation. They then punched him to the ground resulting in a serious facial injury before removing his wallet and making off on foot.

The injured man went to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he was released after treatment.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at around the time of this incident or who may have seen the three men.

They are described as being in their 20’s and all had local accents. One of the men was around 6ft 2in tall with a medium build, short black spiked hair and was wearing a blue hooded top.

Another is described as being around 5ft 11in with a stocky build and fair blond hair. He has an acne-marked face and at the time of the attack he wore a grey hooded top and blue jeans.

The final man was shorter than the others with a stocky build, ginger hair and had been wearing a black hooded top.

Detective Constable Michael Brown said: “We are very keen to trace the men as quickly as possible and I would appeal to anyone who has information on their whereabouts or who may have seen them prior to or after the attack, to contact police on 101.”
