Police are appealing for assistance from the public to help identify a woman who died in the west of the city today.

Officers responded to Slateford Road at its junction with Craiglockhart Avenue at around 2.50pm following reports of a female having fallen from the footbridge.

The Scottish Ambulance Service was also in attendance and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Enquiries are now underway to establish who the woman is, as she was not carrying any identification at the time.

She is described as white, between 5ft 3ins and  5ft 5ins tall with light coloured hair. She was wearing a pink North Face jacket, navy blue and white striped top, navy blue trousers and shoes.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this death and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Constable Steven Skirving said: “Our investigation is continuing to establish this woman’s identity and we would ask anyone who can assist with our ongoing inquiries is asked to contact police immediately.”
