Police are encouraging fans to enjoy Sunday’s match between Hibernian  and Rangers  responsibly.

A near capacity crowd are expected to attend at Easter Road Stadium for the game, which kicks off at 1230hrs.

There are significant road works planned on the Forth Road Bridge this weekend, along with a 10k fun run in the west and centre of city, which may extend journey times for those travelling from the west of Scotland.

There will also be a baking event on at Ingliston, so traffic will be additionally heavy around that area too.  With this mind, fans are advised to plan their journeys and consider best routes into the city.  Further details can be found at Traffic Scotland.

An appropriate police presence will be in place in and around Easter Road to deter any anti-social behaviour or other criminal activity.

Anti-social drinking in the surrounding streets will also not be tolerated and officers will be enforcing the Edinburgh by-law in this regard.

In addition, police will be assisting stewards to carry out searches outside the ground to prevent illegal or prohibited items being brought inside the stadium including flares and other pyrotechnics.

Fans from both sides are urged to ensure their behaviour during the match does not put themselves or others in danger.

Chief Inspector Richard Horan said: “This is a significant fixture and we want all supporters to enjoy the day.

“Police Scotland is committed to keeping people safe and while the behaviour of the vast majority of fans is exemplary, the conduct of a small minority can often spoil it for others.

“Please remember that alcohol will not be permitted inside the stadium and we will work with stewards to carry out searches of those entering the ground.

“We will also be on the lookout for anyone in possession of fireworks or flares following a number of recent incidents at Scottish football matches.

“Anyone found to be in possession of these items, or any other objects that are not permitted within the stadium, will be refused entry and may face further police action.”
