Hibs’ midfielder John McGinn says that he and his teammates are looking forward to Saturday’s Scottish League Cup semi-final at Tynecastle and he believes that the squad are a match for anyone in the country.

McGinn signed for Hibs after becoming a free agent in the summer following the expiry of his contract at St Mirren where he previously won the trophy, and his skilful play and never say die attitude have won the hearts of the supporters.

Last week he scored Hibs’ second goal in a 3-1 win over his former team but he is not getting carried away and insists that the players and management are concentrating on one game at a time.

Saturday’s game is followed by an away fixture against Morton on Tuesday where three points are vital in the race for automatic promotion then next Sunday they return to Tynecastle to face Hearts in the Scottish cup fifth round.

Speaking to Hibs TV the Scotland Under-21-captain said: “”All the boys are looking forward to it. it’s a national cup semi-final which is a game that everybody wants to be involved in and thankfully we are intending to make the most of it.

“We know that if we play to the best of our ability we can match anyone in the country and we need to make sure that we do that.

“St Johnstone have really good home form and have experienced players and we need to be aware of them. I’m sure the gaffer and the coaching staff will be highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.

“Everyone will have their opinions. It is a cup game and anything can happen. Hopefully it will be an exciting game and end-to-end.

“We just need to forget about the league positions that both sides are in and get the victory that gets us through to the final.

“They are all big games for us now and we are taking each game one by one and it’s good that we have experience in high pressured games. We know that in the dressing room we can handle it and hopefully it can work in our favour on Saturday.”
