Police are looking for information about an incident which took place on Restalrig Road near the Jet Garage around 2am on Saturday morning 7 May 2016.

A 28 year-old man was followed by the suspect who then repeatedly assaulted him. The victim was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious, but non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was wearing dark clothing, white trainers and was last seen heading north on Restalrig Road. He is described as white, in his early 20s and of slim build.

DC Sheila Silvagni of Gayfield CID said: “This was a violent and sustained attack and we’re appealing for anyone with information which can help with our investigation to come forward.

“We believe that there may have been a number of customers, including taxi drivers, at the garage who witnessed the assault and would appeal for them to get in touch.

“We’d also ask anyone who recognises the suspect’s description, or saw a man matching this description in the area, to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
